SKIN by lucy’s Care-First Approach Clinches Industry Gold
When it comes to skin, Lucy Salerno doesn’t just talk the talk; she writes the prescription.
The founder of Melbourne’s SKIN by lucy has just been named the winner of the Brigitte Benge Retail Prescription Award at this year’s Best In Skin Awards, recognised for her unwavering commitment to client care.
“It’s been a week and I still can’t believe it,” Lucy said. “To win the overall award for skin prescription blows my mind. There are so many incredible therapists out there. Home care prescriptions and client care are something I value so much, so to be recognised for it is an amazing feeling.”
Lucy’s winning entry focused on her client Yori, who was experiencing painful, itchy, and debilitating topical steroid withdrawal on the neck, leaving her feeling self-conscious and exhausted. Lucy kept the routine incredibly simple but intentional: only three products, introduced gradually over three weeks to minimise reactivity and support comfort.
As with every SKIN by lucy client, Yori’s journey began with a one-hour skin consultation to uncover history, triggers, and any underlying factors. What followed was consistent communication, client education, and steady encouragement, all of which were vital given the client’s previous experiences with unsuccessful treatments.
“There was a lot of PTSD from other experiences that hadn’t worked out well,” Lucy said. “So communication was really important.”
Lucy paired Prologic Skincare, chosen for its skin-identical formulations, with internal support and long-term planning. This wasn’t a hard sell or a packed routine. It was a skin plan that felt safe, steady, and supportive, and the results followed.
Lucy started SKIN by lucy to educate and empower clients, particularly those struggling with challenging inflammatory skin conditions. Her goal is to help clients feel more confident in their skin, both physically and emotionally, while equipping them with the knowledge that supports long-term results.
“I want them to understand what their skin is doing, why it’s doing it, and have tools to help. It’s a very rewarding job to have.”
Her boutique, one-on-one approach means every client gets a tailored experience, with care that continues beyond the appointment.
“No one is just a number to me. I want clients to know that they can always reach out and that I’m here for them. (Through) skin changes with stress, climate, and life, I want them to know I’m there through all of it.”
For fellow therapists, Lucy believes the key is education and values-led care.
“Be really educated. Treat the skin with your values. If you love what you do, your passion will come through.”
And clearly, it has. Passion, purpose, and now, a Best In Skin win to match.
